| Beneath Barcelona lies
the southern coastal stretch of Catalonia: the Costa Dorada
(Golden Coast). The region is quite different from its northern
neighbour, the Costa Brava. The coastline is less rugged, with
miles and miles of flat golden sandy beaches. Golfers living
outside of Spain know very little about this emerging golf location.
It has all the important ingredients: four good courses with
new ones to follow, great year-round weather, quality hotels,
two historical major cities. Reus and Tarragona are sleepy fishing
villages, excellent restaurants in abundance, superb road infrastructure
and lastly two airports Reus and Barcelona. Tarragona, perched
next to the coast, is renowned for its fascinating Roman ruins.
Reus, a smaller city, is famous as the birth place of Gaudi
and once was a major trading city in Europe. Vineyards can be
seen practically everywhere, as this region is home to some
of Spain’s best wines, especially the strong reds from
the Priorat. Famous ‘Castells’ tradition |
